"Qantas Airways Australia:
"Our New Home"
In 2010 Qantas Airways,
Australia's iconic airline, committed to upgrading their
Sydney Corporate Headquarters. Due to the significant design
changes, which supported an entirely new style of working
together, Qantas was provided with an opportunity to drive a
cultural program for a more efficient and effective
workplace.
The Vision: Creating a connected workplace that fosters
innovation and collaboration, empowers people and instills a
sense of pride.
The Challenges:
-
Budget for Change -
limited
-
Industrialised
environment - with a highly involved, passionate
workforce!
The Strategy:
-
Adopt creative and
innovative ways (utilising technology) to engage and
illicit buy-in for the new way of doing things
-
Create a view of the
future state - to allow their people to visualise
themselves within it
-
Focus upon how the new
environment will feel, rather the physical components
-
Utilise a sponsorship
spine methodology (Bain approach), removing reliance on
practitioners
Key Takeaways:
-
How Workplace Design can
be utilised as an enabler for cultural change
-
How to utilise technology
to mobilise for change in a constrained change
environment
-
Dealing with change in an
industrialised environment
