"Best Practices for Effective and
Practical Change Management in the
University of South Africa"
In the 21st century it is
generally accepted that there are no certainties, however,
the only thing that organisations can be certain about is
that there will always be change, whether planned or not.
This paper aims to articulate the approach followed by
College of Economic and Management Sciences, University of
South Africa when implementing change. In this approach it
is acknowledged that change does not happen in a vacuum,
change needs to be supporting a set organisational strategy
that has been communicated and been agreed upon by every
member of the organisation. This approach argues that a
leader in an organisation play a huge role in implementing
change. The college (CEMS) utilises the principle-based
value system model for implementing change in organisations.
The model is based on RARE (responsible, accountable,
relevant and ethical) value system. Finally, the paper
presents the best practices that the college follows while
using the RARE model, this include communicating the need
for change, mobilising others for change, implementing the
proposed change, monitoring the change implementation and
evaluating the outcomes for change.
